What is the Navy Expeditionary Medal Decoration?

The Navy Expeditionary Medal is a medal created in 1936 for "Landed on foreign territory and engaged in operations against armed opposition, or operated under circumstances which, after full consideration, shall be deemed to merit special recognition and for which service no campaign medal has been awarded." This medal is unique in the fact it is one of the older medals available to Naval personnel. This medal cannot be awarded to Marine Corps Personnel and every subsequent awarding is represented by a bronze star. This is also an award that is protected under the Stolen Valor Acdt and can be prosecuted by Federal and State Authorities.

The United States military sorts decorations into categories called Classes and Types. The Navy Expeditionary Medal medal is classified as a Service Award of the type Expeditionary Medal.
